Coding Camp with Java™

Ages 11-14

Camp Locations

2020 Java Coding Camps in Los Angeles CA, San Francisco CA, Manhattan Upper East Side, NYC, Long Island NY, Miami FL, Ann Arbor MI & Seattle WA at Camp Tech Revolution!

Learn In-Demand Coding Skills and Unlock A Pathway In Computer Science.

Java is a popular programming software that is used on billions of devices worldwide!

Tech Revolution offers a highly acclaimed Java Coding Camp that immerses campers in a range of skills and project-based learning. Campers learn about the logic and syntax of Java™ programs, while sharpening their skills in planning, problem solving, and, of course… computer programming! During the camp week Java campers get to create at least one mini project and one main project.

So, what are the incredible projects for 2020 camp?

Mini projects may include an automatic sentence generator, a magic 8 ball, a silly name generator, a coin flipping simulator, a pig latin translator, or a pig dice game.

Main Camp Projects may include a tower defense, a tic tac toe game, a quiz game, superpong, a platformer game, a calculator, or a graphical choose your own adventure game!

By utilizing Eclipse as a Java™ IDE, campers learn how to print text onto the computer screen, use conditional statements and loops, and receive input from the user. These newly acquired skills allow campers to create a text based action adventure game and other projects. As campers progress, they take a step up and explore the world of Graphics in Java™, which provides wonderful visuals to camper projects. By utilizing the AWT graphics library, campers code fully functional graphics into their applications and make impactful choices as the programmer and project designer!

*No prior programming experience is required, but previous background in Scratch or another programming language and a basic understanding of Algebra is encouraged.

Campers will program using pre-installed software on Lavner computers. Campers are shown how to install Eclipse and continue their coding projects at home. By the end of the session, campers improve their skills in Java™, gain a better understanding of computer languages as a whole, and leave camp with impressive projects! Learning Java™ gives our campers a leg up in the tech world and a better understanding of how many programs work from the backend.

Valuable Learning Opportunities

Endless Opportunities

Development opportunities with Java™ are limitless. Java™ has a very large database with support from professional coders and developers throughout the world. Lots of software being used today involves Java™ partly or entirely, so you will never run out of choices or worry about what to do with your Java™ skills!

Developing a Mind for Programming

A mastery in Java™ requires patience and self-discipline. As you learn how to code in Java™ at camp, you learn to adjust yourself to the mindset of professional programmers and thinkers. At Lavner Camps, we work to teach these skills while still ensuring that there are always plenty of opportunities for socialization and fun!

Leading By Example

Java™ incorporates best practices in using object oriented programming. As you code in Java™, you gain skills which are transferable to other programming languages like Python and C++!

Java™ is Universal and Cross-Platform

Java™ is running just about everywhere you can imagine. Many large applications are programmed with Java due to its scalability, stability, and maintainability. Examples of such applications include Minecraft™, Blu-ray technology and Gmail. By learning Java™ at camp, it will give you a greater understanding of other technology around you. Java™ is also cross-platform which means a java program will run on Mac, PC, and Linux as long as Java™ is installed.

Learn how Minecraft is coded in Java

Minecraft, one of the world’s most popular games, is coded in Java. After acquiring some Java skills, campers may have the opportunity to take a look at how a game like Minecraft is programmed. With skills in Java you could code mods for Minecraft or even create a game like Minecraft!

Private Lessons

Improve Your Skills with Private Instruction!

So many of our campers are passionate about the specialty programs they are participating in and want to further improve and develop the skills taught in camp.  Private lessons are a great way to do this!

Private lessons are offered at many of our specialty day camps.  You may book an AM lesson from 8:00am to 8:45am or PM lesson from 3:45pm to 4:30pm.

If your child is enrolled for a private lesson before camp, early arrival coverage is included in the cost of the private lesson on that day.  If your child is enrolled for a private lesson after camp, extended day coverage until 6:00pm is NOT included in the cost for the private lesson on that day.

•  Lessons are offered in the subject matter of your child’s camp and tailored to your child’s ability level.
•  Private lessons are only offered to campers in attendance during that camp week.
•  All lessons should be booked via online enrollment.  Spots are limited!

One-on-one private instruction is an excellent way for campers to learn at their own pace, gain a better understanding and mastery of the skills and subject material, and enhance their experience at camp. Our instructors are friendly and supportive and they understand that every camper learns at his or her own pace. Our private lessons are designed to be hands-on and very focused, which enables the instructor and camper to concentrate on improving both strengths and weaknesses. Lessons are tailored to the specific camper, and in some instances, campers may use the private lessons to go above and beyond the camp curriculum in an educational and informative manner with the help of the instructor. Private lessons are optional, and are within the subject matter of the camp your child is attending that week.

Private lessons are limited and are booked on a first-come, first-served basis! Campers have the option to purchase more than one private lesson per week, and each lesson builds upon the progress made at camp and in previous lessons.

In addition to being a great supplement to the camp week, private lessons are convenient! Lessons occur either before camp (during Early Arrival) or immediately after camp (during Extended Day).

Private lessons can be booked online during enrollment, or by contacting our office via email at [email protected] or by calling one of our camp specialists at 888.854.CAMP (2267). If you already enrolled online and want to add lessons, you can log back into your account and add them to your camp enrollment at any time, subject to availability.

*The purchase of private lessons is considered camp tuition and falls under the terms & conditions provided on

Frequently Asked Questions

Our camp families ask us many great questions about our summer camps.  Below are a list of questions that are frequently asked.  If you have a question that is not listed, please send it our way!

Question #1:  How much time do campers spend with their course?

Answer:  Campers will spend approximately 22.5-25 hours/week in their chosen course.

Question #2:  What are your staff to camper ratios?

Answer:  We guarantee a max staff to camper ratio of 1:5 to 1:10… or better!  We strive to create a camp environment where campers receive excellent supervision and high levels of attention during instructional periods.

Question #3:  Who are your instructors?

Answer:  Our instructors are the very best out of a large pool of qualified applicants we consider. We hire less than 5% of applicants. Typically, our lead instructors consist of teachers, college professors, undergrad/grad students from excellent colleges/universities, and the occasional superstar student entering college in the fall. Assistant instructors typically consist of accomplished rising seniors. Our instructors are extremely knowledgeable in the subject area, passionate about working with kids, highly responsible, and all have cleared background checks. Instructors go through a rigorous orientation and training prior to the summer camp season and have constant support from on-site camp directors and our central office. We put them in a position to succeed… and they do!

Question #4:  Do you have an on-site camp director?

Answer:  Yes!  At least one on-site camp director manages Tech Revolution at each location. The director is trained to make sure that daily operations at camp are running smoothly, and is also CPR Certified & First Aid trained. Our camp director is available on site to answer your questions, and is available by phone and email if you need to communicate with him/her during the day.

Question #5:  Do campers usually attend for one week or more than one week?

Answer:  Camper attendance varies.  Most campers attend for multiple weeks, and can move up in curriculum if selecting the same course for more than one week.  All of our courses have multiple levels of curriculum and lots of additional activities and projects for all skill levels.

Question #6:  How do you group the campers at camp?

Answer: Campers are grouped by age and ability. We run multiple levels of curriculum in each camp, allowing for campers to attend camp with us at any time during the summer, even if they are beginners. Our campers can sign up for any week and be placed appropriately in camp. This provides our camp families with maximum flexibility.

Question #7:  Do campers improve at camp?

Answer:  Yes! Campers receive approximately 22.5-25 hours of concentrated time in their camp activity per week. This, combined with our cutting-edge curriculum and high level instructors, allows our campers to improve a lot! They are also attending with other campers who share similar interests, which fosters learning through peer to peer interaction.

Question #8:  How do you keep camp fun?

Answer:  We hire fun and dynamic instructors! Campers are also selecting subjects that interests them. Numerous breaks are also incorporated throughout the day with opportunities for recreation and socialization. We offer a great balance of indoor and outdoor time, to make sure our campers have a chance to get fresh air, socialize, and play fun sports and games!

Question #9:  How do you create a safe camp environment?

Answer:  Camp safety is our #1 goal. We work hard all year to make sure our camp safety is top notch. Camp Tech Revolution is operated by Lavner Camps, the leading specialty camp provider in the United States. Lavner Camps is accredited by the American Camp Association (which has hundreds of guidelines for accreditation) in PA and NJ, and carries its standards to other states. We hire responsible staff and train them (including a written test of our detailed handbook/procedures), employ procedures that promote safety and supervision, and are in constant communication.

Question #10:  Why should we choose Lavner Camps and Camp Tech Revolution?
