At our 2018 Coding Camps, join us in our commitment to teach the NEXT GENERATION of CODERS!

Welcome to the amazing world of programming with Scratch, where, at this fun and exciting computer camp, campers gain great experience with computer science!  Campers use Scratch, a program created by the MIT Media Lab, to code, create, and share projects.  Campers code from the backend to create character actions and interactions, in addition to establishing entire interactive adventures and stories.

Scratch uses a programming language that is in easy to understand English and created for its own platform. By moving and combining blocks of code, campers develop their own programs to create super cool animation projects.  Campers can also make their animations interactive by including instructions, designing their character’s costumes, adding unique background images and sounds, and programming their “sprites” (the objects that perform the actions in the project) to dance, sing, and talk, in addition to other endless possibilities. Campers enjoy coding projects and using lots of creativity.

The types of projects vary and range from game design, to animation, to adventure!  Some projects may include creating A Tic-Tac-Toe Game (for multi-player or one player in Artificial Intelligence Mode), Fruit Chopping Frenzy, Wacky Bird, Music Concert, An Animated Film, A Comedy Skit, A Dance Party, An Asteroids Arcade Game with levels and scoring, A Geographical Adventure Game (Where in the World is…), A Language Learning Game, A Sports Game, and lots more!

Valuable Learning Opportunities:

A Great Way To Get Started In Coding: Scratch is a platform that is intuitive and easy to understand for children who are beginners, yet powerful enough to satisfy the coding appetite of those at an intermediate/advanced level in this type of coding.

Improve Logical Thinking Skills:  Not only do you learn to code, but you also improve your logical thinking skills.  These skills can be applied to many areas of life, and our campers definitely benefit from this training at school and in life!

A Chance To Be Creative: Our curriculum is structured to ensure that our campers learn many important coding concepts and actions, but built to allow campers lots of creativity when making projects.  There are a ton of project options to choose from, and there is something for everyone at camp!

Improve Design Skills: In Scratch, designing is a big feature, and campers have the opportunity to make many design choices while creating projects.  Not only are campers learning to code, but they are learning to design too!

Invest in Your Child’s Education and Happiness: In today’s fast paced, tech driven society, it is important for children to learn and understand coding.  This is the opportunity for your child to learn how to code in a structured environment with a focus on learning and fun!

Share Projects with Family & Friends:  Let’s not forget, campers can easily share projects with family and friends by creating their own links!  What better way to show off your new skills and spread the love of coding!

Each camper will leave camp with at least two projects.

  • No prior experience is necessary.
  • This camp is great for one week or multiple weeks.
  • For Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced programmers in Scratch.

Campers Receive a Lavner Camps t-shirt and a CD with all projects! (If you do not have a CD drive on your computer, please bring in a flash drive on Friday.)
