Learn The Basics. Establish A Foundation. Have Lots of Fun.
Using and becoming comfortable with computers is one of the most valuable skills that a child can learn to get a step ahead. Getting an early start with computers can help campers succeed in school and develop critical thinking skills that open up endless possibilities. In Computer Skills 101, campers will get a head start learning to type, using computer programs, and even start coding with Scratch Jr.!
At camp, campers work on the following skills, while playing educational games in a dynamic learning environment:
• Using the mouse and keyboard: Campers learn to type properly on a QWERTY keyboard and improve precision and accuracy using a mouse. Campers will have a blast competing in our typing games and challenges!
• Using standard programs: Learn to draw with MS Paint and write and format using a text editor. Write your own story, add pictures, and take it home!
• Coding with Scratch Jr.: Play fun games while learning to use programming logic and write code. Without even realizing, campers can pick up the basic elements of coding such as loops, variables, if statements, and more!
• Safe Computer Practices: Campers learn important and valuable safety practices that should be followed when using a computer. Computer Skills 101 sets up campers to make use of the plethora of resources that computers provide in a safe and healthy way.
This camp is perfect for beginners and even some intermediate computer users that want to build their skills, improve their coding, and learn to type faster.
Being able to type and use a mouse proficiently is a great life skill. Getting started the right way is extremely valuable and will allow campers to focus on other important skills like programming.
By learning the basic logic of coding campers will practice and boost their math skills and ability to think critically. This is exactly the type of educational opportunity that helps children think creatively and develop the ability to understand concepts in a step by step fashion. These are skills that are sure to help boost academic performance.
Computers are an amazing resource and vital to education in the modern age. We start campers off with safe habits and important rules that ensure that campers have a positive and healthy experience. This can help build a foundation that campers can take with them in the future.
Programming is quickly becoming one of the most valuable skills to learn from a young age. Using Scratch Jr. will help your child get a head start in a fun and age appropriate way, and set them up for success in the future.

So many of our campers are passionate about the specialty programs they are participating in and want to further improve and develop the skills taught in camp. Private lessons are a great way to do this!
Private lessons are offered at many of our specialty day camps. You may book an AM lesson from 8:00am to 8:45am and a PM lesson from 3:30pm to 4:15pm or 3:30pm to 5:00pm.
If your child is enrolled for a private lesson before camp, early arrival coverage is included in the cost of the private lesson on that day.
• Lessons are offered in the subject matter of your child’s camp and tailored to your child’s ability level.
• Private lessons are only offered to campers in attendance during that camp week.
• All lessons should be booked via online enrollment. Spots are limited!
One-on-one private instruction is an excellent way for campers to learn at their own pace, gain a better understanding and mastery of the skills and subject material, and enhance their experience at camp. Our instructors are friendly and supportive, and understand that every camper learns at their own pace. Our private lessons are designed to be hands-on and very focused, which enables the instructor and camper to concentrate on improving both strengths and weaknesses. Lessons are tailored to the specific camper, and in some instances, campers may use the private lessons to go above and beyond the camp curriculum in an educational and informative manner with the help of the instructor. Private lessons are optional, and are within the subject matter of the camp your child is attending that week.
Private lessons are limited and are booked on a first-come, first-served basis! Campers have the option to purchase more than one private lesson per week, and each lesson builds upon the progress made at camp and in previous lessons.
In addition to being a great supplement to the camp week, private lessons are convenient! Lessons occur either before camp (during Early Arrival) or immediately after camp.
Private lessons can be booked when enrolling for camp, or by contacting our office via email at Info@lavnercamps.com or by calling one of our camp specialists at 888.854.CAMP (2267). If you already enrolled and want to add lessons, you can log back into your account and add them at any time, subject to availability.
*The purchase of private lessons is considered camp tuition and falls under the terms & conditions provided on www.lavnercampsandprograms.com.
Our camp families ask us many great questions about our summer camps. Below are a list of 10 questions that are frequently asked. If you have a question that is not listed, please send it our way!
Question #1: Are your camps accredited?
Answer: Yes, we are accredited by the American Camp Association in Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and carry our practices to other states. The American Camp Association provides a guideline of hundreds of standards, and conducts site visits for re-accreditation. It is a lot of work to become and remain accredited; our commitment shows the dedication that we have to providing a safe and healthy environment for our campers, and our overall commitment to excellence and your child!
Question #2: What are your staff to camper ratios?
Answer: We guarantee a max staff-to-camper ratio of 1:4 to 1:8…or better! We invest in great staff and low ratios to ensure the best camp experience for your child, which is what counts the most!
Question #3: Who are your instructors?
Answer: Our instructors are high level and are the very best out of a large pool of qualified applicants we consider. Each year, we hire less than 3% of applicants. Typically, our lead instructors consist of teachers, college professors, undergrad/grad students from excellent colleges/universities, and the occasional superstar student entering college in the fall. Assistant instructors typically consist of accomplished rising seniors. Our instructors are knowledgeable in the subject area, passionate about working with kids, highly responsible, and have cleared background checks. Instructors go through a rigorous orientation and training prior to the summer camp season and have constant support from onsite camp directors and our central office. We put them in a position to succeed…and they do!
Question #4: Do you have an on-site camp director?
Answer: Yes! Many of our on-site directors are full-time teachers during the school year. Our on-site camp directors manage each camp location. They are trained to make sure that daily operations at camp are running smoothly, and are also CPR and First Aid certified. Camp directors are available on site to answer your questions, and are available by phone and email if you need to communicate with them during the day. Our central office also employs regional directors who visit camp locations to help ensure a high quality camp environment!
Question #5: Do campers usually attend for one week or more than one week?
Answer: Camper attendance varies. Most campers attend for multiple weeks, either in the same camp or in a variety of camps. Our camps have multiple levels of curricula and lots of additional activities and projects for all skill levels.
Question #6: How do you group the campers at camp?
Answer: Campers are grouped by age and ability. We run multiple levels of curricula, allowing for campers to attend camp with us at any time during the summer, even if they are beginners. Our campers can sign up for any week and be placed appropriately in camp. This provides our camp families with maximum flexibility.
Question #7: Do your campers improve at camp?
Answer: Yes! Campers receive approximately 22-25 hours of concentrated time in their camp activity per week. This, combined with our cutting-edge curriculum and high-level instructors, allows our campers to improve a lot! Camper improvement is the cornerstone of our Specialty Camps and is what allows us to be successful!
Question #8: How do you keep camp fun?
Answer: We hire fun and dynamic instructors, and focus on creating an awesome camp culture! Campers are also attending a specialty camp of their choice, so they already want to be there! We incorporate a number of breaks during the day with opportunities for recreation and socialization. On Fridays, there is typically a grand finale/showcase that campers work towards – e.g. Bake Off, ROBOWARS Tournament, Tennis Olympics, Fashion Show, Beta Testing Projects. We receive tons of emails from happy parents…our campers truly love camp!
Question #9: How do you create a safe camp environment?
Answer: Camp safety is our #1 goal. We work hard all year long to make sure our camp safety is top notch. We are ACA accredited and follow extensive guidelines. We hire very responsible staff and train them in our procedures and best practices, employ procedures that promote safety and supervision, and are in constant communication. We also implement a behavioral policy that is strict but fair and requires that all campers exude good behavior, do not engage in bullying, and contribute to a safe and welcoming camp environment. Your child is our #1 priority, which means that the safety of our campers is our first concern. For our Covid-19 protocol, please visit our Covid-19 Resource Page.
